Designer Rugs and Easton Pearson


Lexus Australia invited Designer Rugs to present their 2009 collection in collaboration with Australian fashion design duo Lydia Easton and Pamela Pearson (Easton Pearson). The venue for this exclusive preview was the Spring Racing carnival in Melbourne.

Nique

Nique began as a design studio in Melbourne, co-founded by designers Nick and Lucy Ennis. Nique's first projects included flyers and street art for the local music scene, and related corporate work. In 1998, Nique produced its first clothing line.

Nique's summer 08/09 collection is called 'Control'. The women's collection includes oversized asymmetrical tees, drop crotch pants and ivory silk pleated dresses. Also part of the women's collection is the pixelated DNA print on 100% silk, in a range of styles.

The men's collection includes dressed down tailored shirts, raw denim shorts, check or plaid shirts, vests and the men's t-shirt prints.

On 20th January 2009 Alexander McQueen and Puma presented a full collection of men's and women's apparel and accessories for Autumn/Winter 09. The collection was presented in Milan on January 2oth 2009, for Milan Men's Fashion Week. 'Power' is the reference for the new collection, combined with a seasonal theme of 'Boxing'.

Also launched with the collection was the premiere of 'Ghost', a short brand movie, directed by Saam Faramond. The film depicts a high action duel, interpreting the vision of Alexander McQueen and Puma.

Dr Gene Sherman is a former Trustee of the Powerhouse Museum and noted connoisseur, collector and wearer of fashion by leading Japanese designers.

The Contemporary Japanese fashion: Gene Sherman Collection is a selection of Dr Gene Sherman's personal collection of garments and accessories by Issey Miyake, Comme des Garçons and Yohji Yamamoto.

The collection will be on show at the Powerhouse Museum (500 Harris Street, Ultimo, Sydney) from 28 February 2009 to 31 May 2009.

Boutique streetwear store Halfsleeve had its official opening with a party on Friday 30 January 2009.

Japanese contemporary styling has influenced Halfsleeve's slick interior and their thoughtful selection of brands. Labels include Manhattan Portage (Original New York Messenger Bags), Another Inch (Sydney) Fred Perry Japan, Rocksmith Tokyo, Dissizit! (LA), Nooka watches. Labels on the way include Mishka NYC and MHI (UK).

The first series of HALFSLEEVE Artist T-shirts (limited to 20 only) was also presented during the opening. Halfsleeve also exhibited selected works from artists Julian Meagher and Nanami Cowdroy on the night.

Design For Humanity


Design For Humanity is a charity event by Billabong Girls, combining Fashion, Art and Music to raise money for SurfAid International (a non-profit working on improving the health and wellbeing of people living in isolated regions through community-based health programs).

Design For Humanity will be held in Sydney for the first time at The Forum on Wednesday 18 February 2009. Los Angeles and Paris have also held Design For Hummanity events.

Sydney's Design For Humanity program includes: a runway show previewing Billabong’s Summer 09 range, performances by Ashleigh Mannix , The Cassette Kids and DJs The Bag Raiders.

Yeojin Bae's Autumn/Winter 2009 collection is inspired by the blonde heroines of Alfred Hitchcock's movies.
