Kite Magazine


Kite Magazine is a new format 'Contemporary Culture magazine' from Australia. It sets out to showcase the work of artists who 'let their ideas take flight'. In doing so, Kite also seeks to promote greater dialogue between artistic disciplines.

Issue 1 (pictured) includes contributions from: Will Davidson(Fashion Photography), Stina Persson(watercolour and ink artist), Eskimo Joe(Australian band), Amiel(singer) Youth World (fashion by Therese Rawsthorne) and Jasper Knight(artist)

Madame Fancy Pants

The Madame Fancy Pants jewellery brand was created by Claire Terry in 2003. A self taught jeweller, Claire creates beautiful necklaces, earrings, rings and Bracelets. The necklaces, like all her pieces have wonderful names like: "Beautiful Pazia Dahia", "What lies beneath the waves" and "Hold on Henrietta" (a 3mm laser cut shape of the Madame Fancy Pants signature bird in white or black perspex).

The Graduate Store - Strand Arcade

The Graduate Store is a retail concept designed to give a group of six recent graduates (from The Fashion Design Studio TAFE NSW – Sydney Institute) a year of hands-on experience in developing their own brand and operating a business.

The concept was developed by The Strand and The Fashion Design Studio TAFE NSW – Sydney Institute.

The current graduate group are: Andrea Cainero, Michael Losordo, Toby MacLean, Melissa Polynkova, Naomi Swalwell and Karla Spetic. It is intended that this group will "rollover" the store to a new graduate group next year.

Akira Isogawa wins the Australian Fashion Laureate award

Akira Isogawa has been announced as the inaugural winner of the Australian Fashion Laureate award. Akira was nominated for the award alongside Jayson Brunsdon, Collette Dinnigan, Nicholas Huxley, and Carla Zampatti. The announcement was made by NSW Premier Morris Iemma during a ceremony at Government House on 8th October. The Australian Fashion Laureate is an initiative launched by the fashion division of International Media Group(IMG), and the NSW Government.

Pulp Magazine - Issue 55


Pulp is an NZ magazine (published quarterly) that aims to "...report on, cultivate and critique new trends in pop culture both locally and internationally by showcasing everything fresh, exciting and essential in fashion, entertainment and culture".

Laurie Foon


Laurie Foon is the founder of iconic Wellington label Starfish and her own label LAURIE FOON. Laurie Foon has been joined by designer Carleen Schollum. Their winter 2007 collection was "Grey Gardens" (Fallen From Grace gown above). Their current 07/08 collection for summer is "The Twighlight Prowl". Fluro - The Rag Trade


Fluro is a new street press zine based in Wellington, New Zealand. Fluro covers New Zealand and international popular culture including fashion, music, design and arts.

Issue 2 (pictured above) was themed 'The Rag Trade'. It featured up and coming labels (Bird Clothing, Two White Buddies, Involved, Another Boy) and NZ fashion icons (Miss Crabb, Nom*D, Des Rusk). Issue 2 also included fashion illustrator Kelly Thompson, plus bands Little Pictures, and Fighting the Shakes.

Jessie Tucker Lingerie


Jessie Tucker creates beautiful, limited edition lingerie, designing styles and patterns influenced from her painting and costume design background.

The style of each of her collections is set by themes such as 'Airmail', or 'Tales of a Wholesome Vamp'. Her latest is 'The Lace Tent & the Treehouse'. Her lingerie has even been featured at the Nation Gallery Victoria, to accompany the recently held Vivienne Westwood retrospective.
In 2004, Tucker expanded her range to include t-shirts.

Frankie Magazine - Creativity. Everyone Has It


The Sept/Oct 2007 issue of Frankie Magazine explores the theme "Creativity. Everyone has it". The issue features a range of creative expression within: Photography, Filmmaking, Jewellery, Winemaking, Writing, Fashion, (extending even to) support for Environmental Causes, and many other candid creative moments. Other highlights include a portraiture exhibition of 'Sexy Young Things' - creative types working in Australia; musicians Alana (The Grates), Willy Drebacker(Gotye), Ben Kweller and Bob Evans discuss their first jobs; and a free art poster is enclosed.
