IdN - Fashion Graphics Issue


IdN's Volume 14 issue 3 features 10 graphic designers making their mark in the fashion world. The 10 include Antimode, eBoy, Scandinavian DesignLab and Julie Verhoeven.

Issue 3 also covers 8 artists talking about the 'appeal of designing, making and wearing a T-shirt'. Mexico is this issue's 'Creative Country' - and hey, there is even an interview with Makito Osaki, Director of Virtua Fighter 5.

Motorola Melbourne Spring Fashion Week


The Motorola Melbourne Spring Fashion Week(MMSFW) is set for September 3-9. There will be over 120 events held by over 60 retailers and businesses throughout the week. Amongst all the events, MMSFW will hold 4 official evening parades:

Hot in the City Tue 4 Sept
Hot summer styles, featuring Bettina Liano, Clemente Talarico, Flamingo Sands, Flux, Leopold and White Suede.

Style Wars Wed 5 Sept
Individual and unique collections featuring Alpha 60, Claude Maus, Friedrich Grey, Kate Hurst, Material Boy, Romance was Born and TV

The Looking Glass Thu 6 Sept
'Extraordinary and beautiful treasures' of prized designers and retailers, featuring Anna Thomas, Aurelio Costarella, Christine Husk, Jayson Brundson and Nevenka.

Object of Desire 7 Sept
'Objects of desire with a razor sharp contemporary edge', featuring Alice McCall, Gorman, Jessie Hill, Kirrily Johnston, LIFEwithBIRD and Shakuhachi.

Other highlights include: workshops with Kimono House, Louise Macdonald Millinery Exhibition at Hugo Boss, Le Marchè de la Couture from The Fashion Incubator (including a special collaboration with designer Jenny Bannister), Fashion Design market at Federation Square, and Emerging Design Parade and Market at The Trader Bar, Collins St.

Karl Lagerfeld:My Favourite Songs


'Vogue Presents Karl Lagerfeld: My Favourite Songs', released in November 06, is a 2 disc compilation of the fashion designer's favourite music. The selection is categorized into 'at work' and 'at home'. The selection ranges from Goldfrapp to Siouxie and the Banshees, to Mayer/Aguayo covering Kylie Minogue's "Slow." The black and white CD jacket is designed by the man himself.

Young Blood Designers Market - August 07


The Young Blood Designers Market was on again last weekend(17-18 August). As always, there was a wide selection of inspiring original designs. Designer highlights for me included: High Tea With Mrs Woo(apparel), Lola and Bailey(jewellery), Donna Sgro(apparel) and Smug Designs(jewellery).

Jacqui Alexander - Face of Melbourne Fashion Week

Melbourne City Council has announced Jacqui Alexander as the public face of Melbourne Fashion Week, launching on September 3. At 18, Alexander has gained fame as the youngest designer to have her work bought by Harrods. She designed her first collection last year, during her final year of high school. Coterie


Coterie has quickly established itself as a cult fashion boutique destination in Sydney. It was launched by sisters Natalie (fashion journalist) and Danielle (makeup artist) in October 06. Coterie stocks labels from Australia, USA, Denmark, Sweden, NZ , UK and Paris - often exclusive, in limited selection, and some items are one offs. There is also a selection of jeans and t-shirts for men.

Labels include: Betsey Johnson, Chelsea Rebelle, Cheap Monday, Earnest Sewn and Jens Laugesen. Accessories include: Ae'lkemi belts, Barry M Cosmetics, By Jeannie jewellery and Christian Roth sunglasses.

Fifties Fair 2007


The annual Historical Houses Trust 50's Fair will be held this year on Sunday 26 August. As always, it will be held at Rose Seidler House, located at 71 Clissold Road, Wahroonga. The day long event includes: Best Dressed Awards, vintage vehicle displays, 50's collectibles and fashion stalls, a variety of music performances, and even a 50's hairdresser to create your own quiff or bouffant look. Akira Isogawa - Sydney Design Week
