Alice Euphemia

Once upon a time, Karen Rieschieck and Caroline Price started Alice Euphemia, a small second-hand fashions store in a basement store off Flinders Lane. Its intention was, as Rieschieck puts it: '... really just to pay my way and have a beautiful life". Ten years on, the store has made a reputation for identifying and inviting new creative talent to show their handmade clothes, jewelry and art. Designers that have been represented by Alice Euphemia include: S!X, Ess Hoshika, Toni Maticevski and Roslyn Piggott.

Alice Euphemia is also celebrating a new premises, a former Craft Victoria showroom in Fitzroy.

Elyse Taylor - David Jones Ambassador for Young Designers

Elyse Taylor is the new David Jones Launch Ambassador for Young Designers. She will be featured with Megan Gale in the David Jones Summer 2007 campaign, shot in the South of France.
Taylor started her modelling career in Australia in 2003. Based in NY, Taylor's catwalk credits include: Bottega Veneta, Marc Jacobs, D&G, Trussadi and Alberta Ferretti. She has worked with Patrick Demarchelier for Chanel Cosmetics and Chris Milcher for American Vogue.
Other models who have been part of the Young Designer Ambassador program include Cheyenne Tozzi, Candice Lake, llona Novecek and Samantha Harris.

Onitsuka Tiger

The Onitsuka Tiger brand was established in 1949 from Kihachiro Onitsuka's desire to foster a positive outlook for Japanese youth after the war. He believed that sport was the key, a belief that kicked off the Onitsuka Tiger legend, starting with the first basketball shoes in Japan (emblazoned with a tiger face design on the arch of the foot). By the 1950's Onitsuka was innovating running shoes with marathon runners Tooru Terasawa and Abebe Bikila. You will no doubt recognise one Onitsuka Tiger icon, in the form of the Mexico 66's - a yellow pair worn by Uma Thurman in Kill Bill vol 1.

Onitsuka Tiger's Sydney store opened in 2005, located at Westfield Bondi Junction. It is part of an exclusive chain of dedicated stores, with the others located in Tokyo, Fukuoka, London, Paris, Seoul and Berlin.

The Onitsuka Tiger web sites have 'cool stuff' to browse through, including work with designer Arne Quinze, artist collective Faile and you can even make Origami Mexico 66 shoes, via template by premier paper artist Shin Tanaka(see above).

Fashion from Fleece

'Fashion from Fleece' is a exhibition created to mark 200 years of Australian wool in fashion. Pieces on display will range from modern to vintage to historical, and covers Australian and international designers.

The vintage selection includes pieces from Christian Dior, YSL, Chanel, Balenciaga, Giorgio Armani and Jenny Kee. The contemporary designers include Akira Isogawa, Josh Goot, Easton Pearson, Jayson Brunsdon, Proenza Schouler and Martin Grant.

The exhibition will run from 25 July to 22 August 2007. The exhibition coincides with Sydney Design Week(4-19 August 2007). Check the Merino Innovation site. The exhibition is assisted by Australian Wool Innovation and Qantas.

Jay Jays Fave T-shirts

Moleskine City Notebooks

Modo and Modo have been the manufacturers of Moleskine notebooks since 1998. They launched a new notebook line in May 2006, known as 'City Notebooks'. There is a notebook themed for each selected major world city. Each notebook contains an overall map of its city, streetmaps, street index, and even 12 sticky translucent sheets to overlay and reposition on the maps to trace your route.

The MoleskineCity.com website complements the city notebooks. This fascinating site is intended to be a collaborative project of city blogging from around the world, that anyone can sign up and contribute to. it also features interviews, features, and Detour, an exhibition of the Moleskine musings of 70 authors. Sneaker Freaker

Sneaker Freaker started in 2003 as a street zine to represent the sneaker footwear craze (Issue 1, above). The magazine covers a range of 'sneaker culture' - interviews with sneaker designers, previews of new sneaker styles, and reviews of top rated sneaker stores around the world. The Sneaker Freaker website offers articles, competitions, a shop, forum/blogging and even a video archive of sneaker ads and the like.
The magazine is currently produced twice a year (say June and November) and sold in about 25 countries. You can register on the site to get their newsletter, or head down to your local sneaker place to buy a copy.
