Lucinda Pinto, who previously controlled the Ipanema, Cose and Issey Miyake fashion businesses in Melbourne, has started Eastern Market - a new retail concept stocking high end designerwear for men and women. Eastern Market opened in a converted chapel in Gratton Street, Carlton in September 06.

Labels include: Carpe Diem, Carol Christian Poell, If Six Was Nine, Casey-Vidalenc, Volga Volga by Micha Panteleev, Christian Peau, Sara Lanzi, Label Under Construction, M.A+, Augusta by Simone Cecchetto, Motoike Leather Art, Ugo Cacciatori, Chrome Hearts, Eyewitness, Werkstatt Muenchen and more.

High Tea With Mrs Woo at Powerhouse Museum

Went to the Insight on Sunday talk on April 15, which featured the 3 Chinese-Australian sisters behind the label High Tea With Mrs Woo. The sisters described their inspirations from Malaysia, how they made their start in Newcastle, and then described some recent highlights, including reSkin (Wearable Technology Lab and symposium in Canberra), a stay at a World-wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) site in Japan, to representing Australia at Shanghai Fashion Week.

Talks at Powerhouse Museum

Powerhouse Museum has started a series of talks :Inside Stories(Wednesdays 12.30pm-1.30pm) and Insights on Sunday(Sundays 2.00pm-3.00pm)

For Inside Stories, Powerhouse Museum professionals showcase stories from their areas of expertise. Fashion linked areas include: decorative arts and design and preservation & heritage management.

Insights on Sunday covers topics from a range of guest speakers and you can take up the conversation with the speakers in the cafe afterwards. Fashion insights include: The fashion design sisters behind the label 'High Tea with Mrs Woo'(15 April), Fiona Holley(wardrobe supervisor for the Sydney Dance Company), and Grace Cochrane, a visiting curator for the 'Smart Works: design and the handmade' exhibition currently at the Powerhouse.

Young Blood Designer's Market

The Young Blood: Designer's Market is run by the Powerhouse Museum Sydney to showcase young Australian design talent. You can shop around for original designs which range from fashion to furniture, homewares and lighting design.
The stallholders are situated at Powerhouse Museum from Friday 20 April 6-9pm to Saturday 21 April 8am-5pm. Entry is free.

Lacoste opens in Sydney

Lacoste has opened its first Australian store at 130 Pitt Street in the Sydney CBD. There is reportedly a second store to be opened in Melbourne later this year.

QVB - 'Two Hundred Years of Fabulous Footwear'

The Queen Victoria Building(QVB) in Sydney will be presenting an exhibition of 'Two Hundred Years of Fabulous Footwear', from April 2 - April 15. The collection ranges from vintage pieces from the Darnell collection (owned by collector Charlotte Smith) to international designs (including Maud Frizon, Stephane Kelian and Bruno Magli Couture) to the future - designs from final year students at TAFE NSW - Sydney Institute.
